The Faculty of Arts and Humanities Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor in Western Philosophy. The area of ​​specialization is open; however, the department has teaching needs in History of Western Philosophy, Ethics, Political Philosophy, Aesthetics, and Critical Thinking. Competence in one or more of these areas would be a plus.

The academic staff of UM’s newly established Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies includes an international team of renowned and innovative senior and junior scholars. The department actively participates in the university-wide general education program and provides doctoral supervision in all of the department’s expertise in Eastern and Western philosophical and religious traditions and methodologies.


Candidates should hold a doctorate in philosophy or a related field and should have an international research profile and a strong publication record, commensurate with their career stage, in their area of ​​research expertise within the western philosophy. Applicants should also have an excellent record of experience in higher education and supervision, again commensurate with their career stage. Fluency in English is expected and fluency in Chinese would be an advantage.

The selected candidate must assume his/her duties in January 2023.


A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP 828,100.00 (approximately USD 102,230.00) will be commensurate with the academic qualification and relevant professional experience of the successful candidates. The current maximum local income tax rate is 12%, but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
