The Chambers Academy Rebels captured their seventh straight regional title with a 56-20 win over Macon-East Academy on the road on Friday night.
The Rebels had a rough start to the season, but they won six straight games to gain home-court advantage for the playoffs.
Head coach Jason Allen’s philosophy of running the ball to wear down defenses once again proved successful.
“I’m really proud of our kids and how they came back from an 0-2 start,” Allen said.
“They never gave up and they believe in what we are doing. Our same formula every game is to kick you in the face and throw the ball straight at you. They failed to score in the second half.
Now that the Rebels are area champions, Allen is focused on winning another state title.
“We have to improve,” Allen said.
“There are things we can do better consistently. There is always room for improvement. We can expand what we do offensively. Either you get better or you get worse. This is our goal.
Allen is proud to have won seven straight regional titles, but he’s also happy that they’ve always been on home soil in the playoffs.
“We don’t have to go on the road,” Allen said.
“It’s huge. We haven’t played a playoff game on the road since 2015. It’s always one of our goals every season.
Allen is happy with his revenue margin this year.
“We didn’t turn the ball over once tonight,” Allen said.
“I feel like if you do that you’ll win a lot more than you lose. A lot of people don’t pay as much attention to it as they should. Defensively we were really good against the run. Our guys kept pounding the rock and we ended up wearing them out.
The Rebels will play their final home game of the season against Hooper next week.
