A policy without bitterness is the main ingredient of any democratic framework. It ensures adherence to party ideology as all are vehicles through which society could develop in all its ramifications. The Action Alliance, AA, candidate for Governor of Gombe State in the 2023 general election, Dr. Nuhu Milah Adeh, is a strong advocate of “politics without bitterness”.
He also believes that there should be absolute respect for each other when members of political parties campaign for their constituents. Dr. Adeh is a humble philanthropist, knowledgeable, exposed and experienced man of the people, seasoned orthopedic surgeon/consultant, teacher, military veteran, reliable and efficient manager and administrator of human resources and resources.
A retired Brigadier General of the Nigerian Army, Dr. Nuhu Milah Adeh’s desire is not only to be a true servant of the people to uplift the standard of living of the people of the state irrespective of any difference, but also to improve everything that has been done. by previous state administrations and to vigorously explore other areas that need urgent attention to make life more meaningful for all of the state’s citizens.
Adeh’s manifesto centers on a four-policy blueprint for the good people of Gombe State. These are education, security, agriculture and rural development; and health. He promises to vigorously pursue the four-policy plan religiously in order to make life more meaningful in an ideal society.
When it comes to education, the gubernatorial candidate believes that Gombe State’s location as the hub of northeastern states, including Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe and Taraba, can create a conducive to learning. His government intends to improve the current level of higher education in Gombe State by providing additional infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities to compete favorably with the best.
Scholarships will be awarded to all students in the state at institutions of higher learning across the country. Free and compulsory education from primary to secondary will be granted to all children from Gombe State. This will allow all out-of-school children to get off the streets and back to school. He will also liaise with religious bodies to improve state government funding for the Almajiri education system to eradicate street begging through Gombe State by children.
On security, the AA gubernatorial candidate said Gombe State, as a safe haven, has witnessed the influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs), some of which are not properly documented and installed by the government. Therefore, he said, as a veteran with experience in conflict-prone areas and security protocols, his government will maintain effective and transparent communication with the electronic national security architecture, especially the Ministries of Interior and Defense, to help tailor operations to local terrain; and communication with the State Security Council to provide adequate and timely support.
With regard to agriculture and rural development, the government of Dr. Adeh will create self-sufficiency in food production and improve nutritional standards for the people of Gombe State. A recent study found that the state’s agricultural potential is barely tapped, and demand for fresh produce will continue to outstrip supply for many years to come. There is also potential for increased production of crops that provide raw materials such as cotton for industries. It intends to create investment opportunities at all levels in the direction of production, agricultural inputs, processing, transport and infrastructure.
It will improve food storage, processing and marketing facilities; development of water resources by providing earth dams to water livestock and irrigated agriculture in the dry season. There will be an aggressive program on deforestation to help reverse deforestation and the advance of the desert. The state government will engage the School of Forestry and Horticulture. It will establish agricultural extension service centers in each of the state’s 11 local government areas, which will receive priority attention.
It will improve access to fertilizers, storage facilities and agricultural loans. His government will focus on rural development by creating investment infrastructure in agricultural value chain like roads, electricity to connect rural areas to market with the help of modern solar energy innovations for small industries in the countryside in order to stimulate youth employment and by extension contain rural exodus and insecurity. His government would continue its efforts to eradicate poverty in rural communities.
In the health sector, Gombe is among the states with high maternal mortality rates in the country. The Northeastern states have a statistic of 1,549 deaths per 100,000 live births. Basic services to ensure a higher level of general welfare among the citizens of Gombe State need to be strengthened. At the same time, the training and equipment of traditional birth attendants and first aiders will be intensified. Considerable attention will be given to malaria, typhoid and infectious diseases due to poor environmental conditions to mitigate the increase and generalization of these health problems.
Dr. Adeh’s administration will create a lasting arrangement among health service providers in rural communities to improve their well-being. It will increase allowances for resident health service professionals, provide drugs and equipment to rural health facilities, liaise with international health organizations such as Doctors Without Borders (MEF), World Health Organization, the West African College of Surgeons, the Red Cross and Red Crescent to complement the effort of the Gombe State government to ensure a healthy and vibrant citizenship of the state.
The bane of government in Gombe State has been the lack of inclusiveness. Not all citizens have been drawn into the governance of the state. This neglect has not encouraged good neighborliness and peaceful coexistence. For Gombe State to truly be the jewel of the savannah, all residents must feel the presence of the government in their lives. He will lead an inclusive government and ensure that no section is left behind in the development of policies and the implementation of its programs. They will be consulted and involved in the management of his government, their government.
This will mark a new start in the transformation of Gombe State and the commitment to democracy and development of the people as he is elected to serve in the 2023 general elections.
